MBTP- We completed the rest of the Habitat portion on the 5-7 Environment Concept. We made our habitat for our snail too. We used the Usborne First Encyclopedia of Animals to research where a snail lives. On Monday, we began construction of our snail's habitat. Squeak drew flowers and water on green construction paper then she frayed the one side of the paper to look like grass. This was pasted into the shoebox top. Wednesday, Squeak cut out the leaves and we put a rock in for our snail. This day took a lot faster than I thought so we continued to Friday's lesson - taking care of an animal. She choose a rabbit from her stuffed animals and we talked about wild verses domestic animals and read The Salamander Room by Anne Mazer. Actually Squeak wanted me to read it three times!
Here is the snail habitat:
Friday, we completes the "All About Me" lesson. Squeak drew pictures of herself, her home, stuff she likes to eat and stuff she likes to do (school was one of those things!).
Now, we are breaking from Moving Beyond the Page to start the Peter Rabbit lap book except I haven't made any copies of anything yet!!!
Math- We started Unit 19 this week and worked on skip counting by 10's and 5's. Squeak had already learned to skip count by 10's (thanks starfall..com) so that was an easy night. Skip counting by 5's was new and she was doing well. Since Squeak gets bored doing the "same" types of stuff, I decided to start Unit 20 next week (Money) then return to Unit 19 the following week to do skip counting by 2's.
Phonics- Squeak completed a couple pages from the Evan Moor phonics book. I decided to get some pages from the middle of the book instead of boring her with "ending" sounds for now.
Other stuff - Squeak worked a ton of pages in that Reader Rabbit math book this week. She completed one of the chapters and got a sticker to put on the page and her certificate at the end of the book. Last night, Squeak worked about 16 pages in her new Flash Kids "Reading, Writing and Math" book. I was pretty "workbooked out" by this time. These are the two books we are going to mainly use when we take a break between Singapore Math and Horizons Math.
I found a WONDERFUL new math website!! Here it is:
I can look up our state math standards too, so I know pretty much where Squeak is. Especially since we will have to follow those standard eventually.
PIGLET
The Piglet is also doing so many new things! And she definitely has her interests. She always loved being read to and now she goes and gets books for me to read to her. She'll bring a book over and sit in my lap. Then I read it a couple of times or just once and she'll return it to the table and get another out of the book basket. I don't remember Squeak doing this at 13 months but it's really cute. Piglet also loves puzzles and shape sorters. I kind of think she is a "nerd" already. Piglet is an imitator too! Everything you say and do, she tries to as well. She really likes Dora and always claps and tries to say the stuff Dora says. She is a nut too!!
*****UPDATE****** I just got my Rod & Staff science for next fall!! It's the Patterns of Nature!! I can't wait to check it out!!

Yes, it is Gary but we aren't Sponge Bob fans so we usually call him "Slimey"!!
ReplyDeleteAnother thank you for the math site. I didn't realize how much they expect them to know these days BEFORE starting Kindergarten! I am glad to have somewhere to go for the state standards.
ReplyDeleteYou seem to get so much done with your precious ones. Keep up the good work. Quick question, when will Squeak be 4?
Love the snail habit, so cute!
