I decided to do something completely different when we begin our K/1st summer session on June 6th. I want to keep things simple with minimal teaching on my part and more student lead. Squeak will also be involved in a few summer activities outside the home such as summer soccer, recreation and a science-based Youth Program (and it's FREE!!).
I am almost done with ironing out the resources I will make available for Squeak - one package is coming Friday, this is something I chose on the "easier" side so Packy can tag along (meaning I chose a package with picture books verses chapter books). We use this as "snack/story/project" time. Yes, I will announce what I'm using later on.
We will continue with BJU Bible and reading/read alouds. And that's it. We are breaking from Singapore Math and Noeo Science and Sonlight History. Mainly because I don't want to keep plowing through curriculum!
So, the bottom line summer K/1st plan:
-summer soccer
-Science-based Youth Program
-recreation
-BJU Bible
-reading/read alouds
-snack/story/project
-and possibly a Brain Quest Grade 3 workbook, just a pull out book for fun

Two Weeks Left of Kindergarten!
Squeak has two weeks of Kindergarten left! I am very proud of her! This month has been very relaxed since she is so far ahead. I have also made some decisions - we are going to start Singapore 2a in the fall instead of sooner. Mainly because of her young age. And also because I rather have a more relaxed summer and not really have to teach much! LOL! I bought a few resources to keep her busy in addition to Singapore 1b IP and CWP books. I toyed with the idea of enrolling her in EPGY for 3 months but decided not to.
Squeak also turns 5 on Tuesday!!
Our official last day of Kindergarten is May 27th and we will enjoy that day at the ZOO! Then we are going to take a complete week off and begin our K/1st summer school. This is just very minimal - 2 days a week, just to keep the skills going. Bible is the only subject that will be completed daily as usual along with Read Aloud time.
This summer, Squeak is also going to be involved in a Summer Soccer program and summer recreation (she went last summer too). We also have our membership to the Kid's Museum that we've been using (we are slated to head there on Friday with Grandma!!).
So in a nutshell, we are here and doing well and Squeak is such an amazing student!
Oh! We started a small "unit study" on the Food Pyramid this past Friday. It was very impromptu as we just started talking about healthy eating and it lead to the official food pyramid kid's website: http://www.mypyramid.gov/kids/index.html
So, we printed out a food pyramid and hung it up. The girls colored their own FP's and hung them up. And we are tracking Squeak's food intake and daily activity with the worksheet from the site. After four days, we are going to draw a giant FP and list all the foods Squeak ate so she can see what she eats the most of! Very fun!

I went from diligent blogger to MIA! This is going to be a quick one!
Squeak has finished and started many new things including:
BJU Phonics/English 1
Singapore Math 1b IP book and I'm preparing to start 2a after she turns 5
BJU Bible Truths K5
We are still plugging along and loving Noeo Chemistry 1 and Sonlight History (though a little relaxed here). Squek is reading more and more and completed Pizza Hut's BOOK IT program (next fall's sign up begins in May!).
We also took a break Easter week and had fun at the Kid's Museum (I bought a membership) and have been getting outside as much as the weather has allowed! I bought a State Park pass so we can get into the state park without having to pay the fee each time. And I booked us a cabin in the park for the end of June as a family trip!

What are we using for 1st Grade?
Next fall, Squeak will officially be in 1st Grade! Since we homeschool year round, we just continue with curricula when needed no matter what time of year it is. This month, for example, we will complete Rod & Staff Bible Stories and Coloring and go right into BJU Bible Truths K5. Last month, we completed Sonlight Science K then started up Noeo Chemistry I....and so on. Here is where I anticipate we will be when we begin 1st Grade on August 29th:
Bible: BJU Bible Truths 1 - I'm certain we will complete BJU Bible Truths K5 before summer's end.
Math: Singapore Primary Math 2b - I believe we will complete 1b mid next month then work in the 1b IP book and begin 2a sometime in May. Since our homeschool schedule is lighter during the summer, I think it will take the summer to work through 2a and the 2a IP book.
Science: Noeo Chemistry I - this probably won't be completed until early 2012 then move onto Noeo Physics I.
History: Modified Sonlight Core 3 - this is on a 3.5 year plan so it won't be complete anytime soon.
LA: I'm leaning towards something BJU for LA but I want to wait until late summer to order anything, depending on where Squeak is at. We will continue on with BJU Spelling 2 as our "fun" informal spelling program. We still have plenty of reading material for Squeak's reading. LA is the most "up in the air" topic since I want to wait until I see where she is at before starting something more formalized.
Handwriting: I don't have plans on using anything formal.
Other: Continue with crafts, character builder stuff, listening to music - all informally.

Weekly Report 2/28 - 3/4
We had a busy week since next week is SPRING BREAK!!!!!! So I wanted to wrap some things up!
This is going to be a brief report...
This week, we wrapped up:
1. The Multiplication and Division Units (Squeak tore through this in less than 30 minutes - textbook and workbook!) of Singapore Math 1b.
2. Our first week of Noeo Chemistry I
3. A Lion to Guard Us (history)
After the break, we will begin:
1. Pocahontas for our history Read Aloud
2. The smaller units of Singapore 1b (time and fractions - all review)
3. Noeo Week 2
Math - I have changed our math plan! I was going to implement this later on but Squeak has been working independently in her workbook that I decided to start now (after 1b). I sold off my Horizons Math books and we have dropped the Horizons supplement. We are going to focus solely on Singapore Math and add in the Intensive Practice (IP) books. When we complete 1b, we will work in the 1b IP book before moving into 2a and so on. We will also continue to use the CWP books with both. I also will toss in a little MEP 1 here and there too.
Other - Squeak earned her BOOK IT! Reading Award from Pizza Hut again for February!
