ALWAYS PRE-READ THE BOOKS YOU WANT TO READ ALOUD!!!!!!!!
Since it's a "children's classic", I thought The Adventures of Pinocchio was going to be an innocent book that shows how lying and mischief cause nothing but trouble. Well, this book is a terrible, morbid book that completely offends all of my Biblical convictions.
The Pinocchio book currently resides in the trash! I don't even have the Biblical conscience to give it away to someone else.
Lesson learned: Always read the content of the books you are going to read aloud!!
I totally agree, I remember letting my daughter check out some books from the "easy reader" section of the library...well later that evening, she comes downstairs to ask me why the character has a gun. Needless to say in William Steig's (a respected children's author) "The Amazing Bone" they did indeed have the main character getting robbed at gunpoint by the bad guys. I was so upset, I wrote the library a nasty letter and have never since let her read books without me knowing first.
ReplyDeleteSorry to rant, but I can feel your passion.
Thanks for the warning, never knew The Adventures of Pinocchio would be offensive.
