Update...coming soon!

It's been quite a while since I've updated and frankly it's because I've been lazy. I just don't feel like typing out all that the girls have accomplished and putting up pictures! Sheesh...what a dud I am!! LOL!

Here's a few highlights for the coming year in January:

This week (the week of the 19th), we are just doing non-curriculum stuff like fun worksheets, crafts, read alouds and some of our "other" books. We are following the public school with time off.

Squeak will begin Singapore Math 3a shortly after our break. She has been doing well with reading and I've been mixing stuff up for her rather than just working in BJU English - stuff from online and other books I have. Squeak likes variety so I'm trying to provide that without straying too far!

Packy is coming along quite well on her own! She learned colors, numbers, letters and other "PreK" stuff on her own. She also can read her name and Squeak's name! Very cute!!

Short School Week!

I have Thursday and Friday planned to take off. Squeak wasn't feeling well on Monday so that day became a "sick day". We worked on school Tuesday and today.

Here are some highlights:

-We are reading about Joseph and his unwavering faith in God during his "rollercoaster" of a life
- Squeak completed her phonics packet that I put together
-A chapter in Singapore Math was completed
-We are reading about pilgrims during our snack/story time
-The girls completed a few projects from Carol's craft package

Weekly Report 10/31 -11/4

I picked up a babysitting job 1-2 days a week so school has been slightly limited. We've been working mainly at night with Bible activities in the morning. Read aloud (snack/story time) has "suffered" the most but I think maybe I'll start reading a story while the kids snack at our babysitting gig.

We are taking two days off next week - Thursday and Friday.

Bible - We are starting to learn about my most favorite man in the Bible - JOSEPH! His faith in God is truly amazing and I hope the girls glean a lot from his life!

Math - Squeak completed two chapters in Singapore Math. We will take a break between 2b and 3a. I think 2b will last us through December.

English - Squeak is still working in phonics/reading with some complaint. This week I put together some pages from another book to make a "packet". Squeak can work through this packet (a break from BJU) and pick whichever pages she wants to do. It must be completed by Thursday.

Other - The girls have been working on fun crafts and projects. We are going to start reading If You Sailed on the Mayflower in 1620 for Thanksgiving as our snack/story time read aloud.

October Month Report

It's been about a month since my last update! We've accomplished a lot and had a lot of fun!!

Bible -  Continuing through BJU Bible Truths and learning about Abraham and his faith/trust/love/obedience in God! What a shining example! We have also read about Isaac and his faith in the LORD!

Phonics - Squeak completed her BOOK IT! goal this month.  She has been plugging through BJU English with some complaint - she doesn't like phonics though she does well with the material. Squeak has been also reading aloud  some new books that I purchased at Barnes & Noble.

Math -  Squeak is continuing to breeze through Singapore Math. We are now working in 2b and by the looks of it, the hardest chapter is Chapter 1. Squeak has already worked on all the other topics in the book. I'm glad I have 3a waiting on the shelf!! Squeak also enjoys the Challenging Word Problem book and we've worked in our Beast Academy sample. She has been counting in the millions too.

Crafts - The girls have been making tons of fun crafts thanks to Carol's Summer Craft kit!

Other -  Healthy eating is HUGE in my opinion!!

Squeak has also worked in her logic books and doing a lot of learning via various computer games. She has been doing a lot of painting and coloring.

Packy knows a lot more that I thought - more colors, numbers, letters and shapes. I am not working with her at all.

Weekly Report 9/26 - 9/30

The girls had a great week in school! This completes 5 weeks of school so far!

Bible - Over the summer, we were focusing on the word "all" while reading the Word. The Lord gave us our "focus word" for the fall: Protection. We have been reading about Noah and the flood and God's protection over His faithful followers. We also discussed how Jesus protects us and how wonderful it is that HE IS OUR PROTECTOR! So, throughout the fall, we will look for and discuss the word "protection, protect" while reading through our Bible.

Math - Squeak completed two chapters in Singapore Math. We begin multiplication and division next week.

English - Squeak completed Unit 1 and moved into the next Unit of BJU English. I taught her about singular and plural while in the van yesterday! Less than 5 minutes and she understood, applied and gave examples. Easy, peasy! LOL!

BOOK IT! begins today so we are going to start marking the books she reads. Squeak's interest in reading is still not great. I'm hoping she will get excited about it because I know it will take off when she does. I'm just waiting for her to realize the whole new exciting world she will enter when she seriously begins reading!

Art - We attempted to make salt dough. Do not put it on your metal baking sheet! It completely ruined our salt dough cut outs and I had to toss out one cookie pan!! We will try again though because the girls had a blast:

Read alouds/other - I've been reading from Ready Freddy! #18 and Magic School Bus #20.

I ordered a Reader Rabbit computer game for Squeak. I like the computer games she plays because they are good reinforcement of the 3 R's. She has been zooming through JumpStart and the next JumpStart level received bad reviews so we are going to try Reader Rabbit. (Plus Reader is really cute!). This Reader Rabbit incoorporates the 3 R's and science and you can print worksheets and certificates. I think it will be a hit!

We had a fun playdate on Friday! The girls had a great time!! Monday, my buddy from college is coming to visit with his daugther (she is 2 years old). The girls are excited to see them too!!
