Weekly Report 12/13 - 12/17

"And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them."   Luke 2:20

Bible - We took a break from reading our 101 Bible Stories today and read about Jesus' birth and painted some pictures:

We talked about how the shepherds TOLD everyone about what they had seen and that we are to tell everyone about JESUS!!

Math - Monday night, Squeak completed Horizons Math 1 and we haven't worked on math since! We are not going to begin Horizons Math 2 or BJU Math 2 until January so we have two weeks of "whatever". She can work in Singapore Math or the skipped lessons in HM 1.

Science -  Today, we completed Week 26 of Sonlight Science and worked some pages in Singapore Science. We covered topics like light/color and electricity and magnets. Here Squeak is working with magnets:

Monday, we went to the science museum:

The girls were digging in the "dino dig" exhibit! And we bought Squeak a little dino digging kit and she spent about 1.5 hours trying to get her little bones dino out:

Other -  The girls made some projects and we have almost completed our second read through of the Peak with Books booklist. We finished The Magic School Bus chapter book and have been reading The Chocolate Touch by Patrick Skene Catling.

Weekly Report 12/6 - 12/10

A rather productive week...again! LOL! We will probably have another "normal" week next week then on light duty the week of the 20th. Next Monday, we are going to head to the Science Museum. Squeak has been asking to go and Daddy is going to be able to come as well.

Bible -  Jesus has ascended to heaven leaving His Holy Spirit and Stephen has been martyred.

Math - I looked through the last three sections I have clipped in Horizons 1 and there is really nothing new except for addition with re-grouping. So my plan is to let Squeak work what she wants within those last three sections then introduce re-grouping. That way, we can stretch out Horizons 1 until the end of the month because I don't want to start Horizons 2 until January. So I'm just going to let her piddle through with what she wants to do then intro into re-grouping the last week of this month.

Science -  Next week, we will begin Week 26 in Sonlight Science. I may have a change in plans when we complete SL K. We are probably going to detour to Noeo Chemistry I before resuming with Sonlight Science 1. Squeak is showing strong interest in Chemistry so I figured it would be fun to detour now - before we have to report. Here is Squeak pointing out a planet that has MORE gravity than Earth:

Packy - I may have another "math geek" on my hands! This past week, Packy threw 21 checkers at Squeak and counted each and every one correctly while throwing them! She has also been counting the little pictures on the flash cards that we keep in the school drawers. She also counts basically anything including the little grooves on the printer! Very cute!

Read alouds - This past week, I've been reading the Peak With Books booklist mainly. And we read a few chapters in The Magic School Bus.

Crafts - All sorts of different things: Christmas trees, snowflakes, and the girls worked on an egg carton Menorah:

Weekly Report 11/29 - 12/3

Our whole family has had colds this past week - Daddy, Mommy, Squeaky and Packy. Fortunately (PTL!), nothing that caused us to bed ridden or anything. And of course, nothing got in the way of Squeak wanting to do school! LOL! I admit though, we've been slacking in reading the Magic School Bus book at night because my voice was done by the evening!

Anyhoo-

Bible - We read about how after Jesus rose from the dead, He appeared to His disciples and gave them "The Great Commission".

Packy also has been praying before meals! She will fold her hands, bow her head then mumble something and look up and say "Amen! Julie's turn!" It's really cute!!

Math - Squeak worked in Horizons this past week and worked through about 35 lessons. Of course, she didn't do everything single lesson. I have been compacting Horizons 1 by paper clipping the lessons into sections of 10 lessons. She will work on a section for a day or two then move on. She has easily been working on adding 3 2-digit numbers and 2 3-digit numbers as well as graphing, fractions, measurement and money. She hasn't had any problems working with numbers in the 100's.

We will start Horizons 2 in January. And we are also going to try Bob Jones University (BJU) Math in January. I just can't "feel the love" for Singapore Math. Squeak does fine with it but I just don't feel the love for it. Perhaps that will change but I don't know.

Science - We are on Week 25 of Sonlight Science K. Squeak has been learning about energy and force.

Other - The girls have been making various crafts:

Changes for January:

-We are going to start/try BJU Math 2
-We are going to start American History using Sonlight materials and various project items I have been gathering.

Weekly Report - Thanksgiving Week

Yes, we had a very light week with mainly crafts and read alouds. We continued with our Bible reading and read various books from the library, SL P3/4 book list and Peak with Books book list.

Exciting news -  Squeak read 6 books last night almost completely independently. She also filled both her BOOK IT! goal and her Applebees Bookworm Club goal. We DO NOT count a book for both programs, I let Squeak pick which program she wants her reading to go towards. I guess we are going out to eat a lot very soon! She seemed to have a jump in confidence and enthusiasm which really boosted her reading ability. We don't work much on phonics right now as her interest hasn't been very high and she is still young.

Despite plenty of protesting, we managed to take the week off of math and science!

Weekly Report 11/15 - 11/19

Week in review...

Bible -  Ok, we haven't returned to using the Rod & Staff! That is my own fault but we are still reading our Bible stories and devotionals. In our Bible story readings, JESUS IS RISEN!!

Math - Squeak only worked on math twice but she completely knocked it out of the park! We started the second book of Horizons 1 and she completed everything with very little effort. I couldn't believe it! She was even adding 500+60+2 (for example) BEFORE we even went through the place value lessons. (The lessons build up so I just did the "final" lesson on a whim!). Squeak completed the section of 10 lessons I clipped together (I don't make her do every single problem or exercise but this time, she did a lot), then some lessons in the next section of 10 THEN she looked through the rest of the book and randomly completed other exercises throughout! Wowza!

Science - We continued with Chemistry and looked at how solids, liquids and gases change. And created examples of each - freezing water, melting the ice, boiling water to steam and it was raining out so that was our water vapor to water example. We also used the Singapore Science books and learned about reversible and irreversible change.

Read Alouds - So far, we have read through the Peak With Books booklist and are almost done with the P 3/4 booklist - maybe 1/4 left. Then we will work our way through both again.

We also finished The Magic School Bus chaper book #6 and began #7.

Squeak is also reading books towards both her BOOK IT! goal and for her Applebees Bookworm Club.

Art - Both girls worked on painting and some turkey projects:

Packy made the picture and Squeak made the turkey hat.

NEXT WEEK - Hoping for a light week but you never know with my little aggressive learners! LOL!

Weekly Report 11/8 - 11/12

A good week here!

Packy turned TWO this past Saturday!! Happy birthday!!!! Here she is coloring our rainbow pictures:

Bible - Squeak informed me that she missed the Rod & Staff Bible Stories and Coloring so I am going to start that back up with the girls. This past week, we've been reading the events leading up to Jesus' betrayal and arrest.

Math - Squeak worked about 17 exercises in the Singapore 1b workbook this past week. She was LOVING it:

This week, we are going to switch to Horizons 1 - we are starting the second book.

Science - In the beginning of the week, we completed our "seed project". Squeak's hypothesis was correct and peat pot #1 grew and peat pots #2 and #3 did not. She knew it would grow because it had all the elements it needed. Squeak is recording her findings in her Nature Diary:

We began the Chemistry portion of Sonlight Science K. We talked about atoms and molecules and the materials that they are made out of. We also worked several pages in Singapore Science. Squeak painted hydrogen atoms and oxygen atoms and we bonded them into water molecules!

Other -  We finished Pony Pals #1 and began The Magic School Bus #6. The girls also finger painted and made some fun foam crafts.

A Two Week "Weekly Report" for 10/25 - 11/5

Ok, so I just didn't feel up updating last week! We are pretty much plugging away at the "usual" stuff. Here are some highlights:

Bible - Squeak is really blessing me lately. Some days, I read only from the devotional and other days I read from the 101 Bible Stories book. Recently, Squeak has been insisting on the Bible Stories book over the devotional! She is really excited about Jesus as we are reading New Testament stories. Today, we read about the Last Supper and Judas' betrayal.

Science - We completed the Biology portion of Sonlight Science K. Now we are moving onto the Physics and Astronomy portions. I believe we are in Week 22. We have been trying to grow mold...it's NOT growing! Squeak does have some great seedlings still growing from our seed experiments.

Ok, I really love Sonlight Science. I planned on continuing with Science 1 then moving into God's Design for Science (by Answers in Genesis) but I'm starting to pray/consider using Science 2 before converting to God's Design.

This is a seed mobile she made last week:

Math - Squeak is done with Horizons Math 1 book 1. We are going to work in the Singapore 1b workbook then begin Horizons 1 book 2. This morning, while I was muttering things while balancing the checkbook, Squeak overheard me and quickly explained the place value of the number I was muttering. This was a 100's place value number! I was thrilled she somehow knew that but then thought "there goes next week's math lessons!!" Horizons book 2 begins with 100's place value! LOL!

Reading -  Yesterday we went to Pizza Hut because Squeak read her books for the Pizz Hut BOOK IT! challenge! She's holding her little certificate here:

Other - Lots of read alouds from the library, Peak With Books booklist and P 3/4 booklist. I don't think Squeak is too thrilled with The Pony Pals because she asked to take a week off of this book to read her Magic School Bus chapter books! haha!

We are doing crafts and Squeak has requested to do pages in her "Summer Express" workbook - this is a workbook for summer when kids are between grades. Squeak is working in the between 1st and 2nd grade book.
