Weekly Report 2/21 - 2/25

Our week was sparse, school-wise. The public schools had break this week so the girls got to play with their cousins a lot!! So that was FUN!!

Bible - We are probably going to complete Rod & Staff Bible Stories and Coloring next month. I received BJU Bible Truths K5 to start afterwards. I'm pretty pleased with it except I bought it from Ebay and it looks like a "bootleg" copy! I emailed the store owner and have yet to hear if the book is suppose to have a cardboard back cover and nothing covering the binding (it's just the glue).

Math - Squeak only worked on math once this week! BUT, she did awesome! We are about to finish Unit 4 - Multiplication. When I started to go through the lesson in the textbook, Squeak appeared bored! So I told her to try the workbook exercises (just to see what would happen) and not only did she complete the exercises of the lesson we are on, she continued to the next exercise set without a problem!

So, I'm not sure what we are going to do next. I originally was going to go back to the addition/subtraction unit but I see the workbook has 3 reviews after the multiplication exercises. So maybe we'll just work in those then move onto division (which she asked what it was last night and I explained it to her, so I think the concept will also be ok for her).

Science - We started Noeo Chemistry I and Squeak is loving it! We are reading through What's Smaller Than a Pygmy Shrew? and Squeak has been drawing in her class notebook and I have been writing down her narrations. We planned on using a (borrowed) microscope to check out a water sample from outside but it didn't work well. So I ordered our own!! In the book, the "tiny creatures" in a water droplet are smaller than a ladybug, so I wanted Squeak to look and draw what she saw in our own water droplet sample. We will do this when our microscope comes! I ordered a Thames and Kosmos TK2 Scope.

So, she just used the book to draw the "tiny creatures".

History - We are still chugging through our books and have one chapter left in A Lion to Guard Us!

Squeak made her own spotting scope, like the one Christopher Columbus is using on the cover of Pedro's Journal.

Other -  Squeak is still reading through I Can Read God's Word. And playing with her K'Nex set! I also bought a puzzle of North America by GEO Puzzle:

We inherited a  K'nex Dragon's Drop Rollercoaster set (used once)! Squeak is practicing putting the pieces together. She really enjoyed using the K'nex at the science museum so she is very thrilled to have this:

This is going to be a fun project that Daddy is excited about too!! They will work on it together!

Weekly Report 2/14 - 2/18

Another busy and exciting week!

Bible- Jesus has been performing miracles and angering the Jewish leaders this week...

I also ordered BJU Bible Truths K5 to work on when we complete R&S Bible. I already have Bible Truths 1 but would like to save that for the fall. We should have R&S completed next month.

Math - Squeak took a break from working in Unit 3 this week and worked in Unit 4 - Multiplication. She has already been exploring multiplication with her Cuisenaire Rods so this unit was not "new". But she did enjoy the concept change. After completing this Unit, we'll head back to the addition/subtraction unit.

I did order and receive SM 2a this week. Looking through it, there are about three concepts that will be new (thanks to Horizons 1 already going into 100's Place Value). I do plan on working in Horizons 2 before moving onto Singapore 2a. I would like Squeak to be at least 5 years old before starting 2a.

Science - Squeak completed Sonlight Science K!!!!! She was very interested in Physics and Isaac Newton. We are going to begin Noeo Chemistry I on Monday. I need to set up her class and lab notebook this weekend. I think Noeo is going to be a hit!!

History - We started reading Pedro's Journal in history. Pedro is a young man who is sailing to Indian on Christopher Columbus' ship, the Santa Maria. To go along with this book, I printed out the notebooking pages from the Hands and Hearts project kit, hole punched them and put them in a folder. Squeak journaled about her day on Thursday (she drew pictures) and colored an Indian last night while I read from the book.

She enjoys notebooking, which is great because Noeo involves so much notebooking.

Other - Squeak is reading through "I Can Read God's Word" - aloud to me. She has also been working in her BJU Spelling book this week. I am not following any sort of schedule with the BJU Spelling...I'm using it mainly to practice handwriting and to work on reading. And she likes it!

We went to library story time and worked a few crafts.

Weekly Report 2/7 - 2/11

Here's what we've been working on this week:

Bible -  Jesus has begun performing miracles and choose His twelve disciples. Squeak particularly enjoyed Peter's net filling up with fish!

Math - Squeak has been working through Singapore and working in the Challenging Word Problem book. I am going to order the next set of Singapore books shortly.

Science - We are on the final week of Sonlight Science K! We completed our Solar System and will move onto an introduction of Issac Newton and the Laws of Motion. Then on 2/21, we will begin Noeo Chemistry I - which arrived this past week!

History - We reviewed what we learned about Christopher Columbus and made a Pokean this week! A Pokean is an Indian game similar to a hacky sack except you bop it with your hands.

Weekly Report 1/31 - 2/4

We had a short week this time around! I'm also thinking of when to take a winter break - probably within the next month-ish.

Bible - We are still rotating between Rod & Staff and 101 Bible Stories. Jesus' ministry is continuing and He choose His disciples!

Math - Squeak is slightly ahead of what I planned this week. I figured we would take the whole week to review the information we previously completed in 1b...well, Squeak blew through that in about 15 minutes. So we began working on the lessons of adding 1 or 10 to a number (through 40).

Science - We are rapidly approaching the end of Sonlight Science K! I have already ordered Noeo Chemistry I and it is scheduled to arrive on Tuesday! We are continuing through the solar system and painting our model. We have Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn all set and painted! (Along with the sun and moon from last week):

We will put the model together after all is painted!!

History - It's 1492 and Columbus sailed the ocean blue!! We talked about Christopher Columbus and his first voyage (by mistake) to the New World. Our next history "spine" is called Pedro's Journal, which is a journal about a boy on Columbus's Santa Maria.

Reading - Once again, Squeak completed her reading goal for Pizza Hut BOOK IT!

Other - The girls worked on some painting, coloring, puzzles and lots of read alouds!

Working in Singapore Math...we've reviewed through 1a in preparation to restart 1b. According to the 1b schedule in the Home Instructor's Guide, we have already completed about 3-4 weeks of 1b of the 16 weeks. I thought we had gone farther but that is fine! My goal was for this to last until September but now I'm shooting for at least MAY!

Squeak has easily been working through the subtraction pages.
