The Lord placed home schooling on my heart long before I even thought about getting married! This is record of the Lord's work in our lives and in our home school. Let HIS will be done!

Weekly Report (4/5 - 4/9)

We were a bit busy this week so school was put on the backburner a bit. We went to the Kid's Museum on Tuesday and the girls had a blast! This was the first time we've gone since Piglet could walk so she was all over the place!!

Spring break is coming up the week of the 18th!!!

Bible - We are tearing through the Devotional book. Squeak keeps asking me to read more. But that's ok, praise the LORD!

Math - Sunday night, Squeak started Horizons Math 1 (book 1). She is very excited about this! We are also working through Book 2 of Horizons K. There is too much new stuff in that to skip it. But I decided to let her kind of work through what she wants to work through. Of course, I'll guide her but we aren't going lesson by lesson. She did well with subtracting on the number line! She still calls it "baby math"!

No math until Sunday night and we are going to work in Horizons 1 for a bit then rotate with HM K.

Here she is working on some lessons in HM 1 (in PJs - we do math at night):

Science - We completed Week 4 today and are currently working on a day long dirt experiment. We have a bunch of dirt in a glass jar and we are going to put some water in it and shake it up. Then see the different layers, after letting it sit for about 2 hours.

Here are some other things we did this week:

This is a picture of Squeak working on the Activity Sheet for earthquakes.

Then we made a volcano:

The finished volcano! And Squeak knows this is an "active" volcano because the lava is flowing!!!

UPDATE SINCE I FIRST POSTED: We found out our soil outside is made up of mainly sand. We took a sample and put it in a glass jar then added water. We shook it and let it stand for 2 hours and observed. Squeak drew her observations on paper. (I drew a jar and she drew the insides). We shook it again and will let it sit overnight!

Other - We are half way through the last chapter of The Mouse and The Motorcycle!

  3. No, we haven't really considered HM. We're dropping Saxon (I didn't plan to use it beyond K, anyway). He'll be starting Singapore Essential Math mixed with Activities for the Abacus. My plan (which I'm sure will change) is to continue with the abacus book until he's ready for SM-1... whenever that will be. No rush. We may throw some Miquon in, but I'm not sure. I want to keep most of our math hands-on for a while. He loves workbooks, but he also loves manipulatives.

I just love to hear about what works for little ones in case I need to switch gears. :)

  5. We *love* children's museums - how fun! My kids will ask when we're traveling and we pass through a town, "Do they have a children's museum here?" ;)

  6. I love seeing those pictures of your little one doing work. It is cute seeing a little one say that they want to do math. Nice report!
